It's a promotion, one he definitely deserves but somehow it feels like a punishment. No matter how good Admiral Kirk might sound he'd prefer to remain Captain Kirk, not trusting anyone else to take care of his ship and his crew the way he can. He's going to miss this ship so much everything from the crew to his chair, it's only being able to talk it all out with his husband that stops him crying during his last shift on the bridge.
