Shelter, Zach/Shaun, terms of endearment

Shaun calls him sweetheart all the time, almost absently, like he doesn't even notice he's doing it, like that's how he thinks of Zach in his own head; he says, "Pass me the shampoo, sweetheart?" and "That's it, Zach, breathe for me, sweetheart, I'll take care of you," and "Love you, Zach; good night, sweetheart."

Zach's not quite sure how to feel about it--it's a term he's always associated with girls, soft and sweet and everything Zach is sure he's not--but he knows Shaun is thoroughly certain Zach is no girl, and anyway, he never says it when it might embarrass Zach (they slipped up once and forgot Gabe was coming over; he caught them in the kitchen with their shirts half off, panting into each other's mouths, and he hasn't quit teasing them about it even weeks later, and Zach doesn't want to give him any more ammunition).

When Zach stops thinking about how he's supposed to react to it, and just lets himself think about what it means, he feels himself warm all over, like he does when Shaun enters him and presses their foreheads together, never once looking away from his eyes; sometimes he forgets that Shaun loves him more than anyone else has before, and he likes hearing it every time Shaun says sweetheart.

(Confession time: 'sweetheart' is my guilty pleasure term of endearment. :D Put it in any fic, no matter how OOC it might be, and I never fail to melt. :D)

Really lovely. I love the breathe for me sweetheart because it's sweet but sensual too. I could see Zach being a bit embarrassed but knowing Shaun doesn't mean it in any teasing way would certainly help him get used to it. The girl thing rang true for me also because it's his first gay relationship he might be unsure of whether guys would use pet names with each other.

Thank you so much! Yeah, I think Zach would be a little stuck in the idea that there has to be a "girl" in the relationship and he doesn't want to be seen that way, but Shaun would soon put him at ease. I'm so glad you liked this! :D

I love Shaun calling Zach sweetheart! I love all of his pet names for Zach, including babe. So loving of him! And I'm sure Zach agrees. This is so nice. I love the intimacy here, yet with so much domesticity!
