Our Lost Kids

Peter skips the steps and looks between Lucy and the door.
Immediately, he walks and begins knocking on it.

her body pressed up against the wall.
lifts her chin defiantly and doesn’t meet his eyes.
childish, he wonders how such a family happened.

She remains and frustration mounts.
his eye, caught, here to side with you,
says, knowing that the explanation is Lucy’s game.
“Now tell me.” and slowly removes from the wall.

She is still tense, and he’s not surprised.
Peter sees Lucy’s eyes dart between him.
glaring at the door, “And?” Peter asks,

he knows where this is headed
pointing wildly at England.
It isn’t Narnia
and it is England, but we’re stuck
in soddy old England

pointing at the closed door, and Peter frowns.
I don’t give a damn if she’s angry and she hates it,
because we all hate it here,
even if I can’t remember, I hate it here.
she looks half mad
that Aslan doesn’t even exist, after,
after the World’s End.

She’s baiting me, Peter thinks. it’s working, he growls,
“We weren’t there for that.”

she wails, hysterical and furious all at once.
She betrayed us. She was there, we all were,
and yet she still’s going around pretending she’s nothing more than
pretty girl with lipstick.

She collapses onto the floor into a sad heap of itchy wool.

Peter is silent. He understands her rage and hurt,
But this isn’t the first time the two of them have listened as Lucy ranted and raved.
And won’t be last.

"Fuck," he whispers, because when did his family fall?
After Narnia, his brain responds automatically,
but he knows that it started long before then,
before Aslan threw them out of their own country.

Oh, Susan, he thinks, because now he remembers how it hurt.
He’d been trying to bury the feeling stretching and twisting and straining his tie with Narnia
the unending sorrow feeding through that connection,
despite being worlds apart,
Narnia needs, wants, her High King.

Peter looks up reluctantly, tears still running down
Edmund sees and Edmund talks quietly
He’s prepared for a long wait.

shuffling around. The door opens, and Peter steps in

he whispers. She shakes. He wipes the tears off her face.

Somewhere between. The tears are gone, and Peter can only hear the echo
of Lucy slowly fading, and
so he holds Susan, and presses a kiss into her hair.

soon, they will have to face a world
that is suffering and
hurt and
pain and loss.

OH, CAROLINE. YOU ARE SO AMAZING, YOU. *bounces and flaps hands*

This is absolutely beautiful. I love how you've distilled my crazy little fic into this beautiful poem, and it's so chilling but gorgeous all at once.

childish, he wonders how such a family happened

"Fuck," he whispers, because when did his family fall?

Oh, Peter. *whimpers*

she looks half mad
that Aslan doesn’t even exist

This! This is so Lucy!

Peter can only hear the echo
of Lucy slowly fading

adsf 8asdfljdf I don't even have words for this line. So beautiful.

Thank you, thank you, bb! ♥ This is more than I could have asked for in an erasure!

I AM SO HAPPY AND GLAD THAT YOU LIKED THIS! I am really pleased with the result. I tried to make it without the Narnia bits, but it was impossible! The entire fic is so Narnia, that the erasure HAD to be a Narnia erasure. Your fic was beautiful all on its own, it was hard to pick out lines. I really like the lines you picked out, they have a beautiful sound.

&hearts SO, SO PLEASED THAT YOU LIKED IT. IT'S ALL THAT I CAN ASK.
