Things I'd do if I was rich, or somebody else:

- Go to London and watch Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and surprisingly perhaps, Legally Blonde. (I just really want to watch it, okey?)

- Go some place warm and forget the world for a week or two.

Things I've done lately by just being me:

- PHANTOM OF THE OPERA AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL! I watched the simulcast at a cinema in Oslo with my mother last night, and it was utterly fantastic. I enjoyed myself so much! Hadley Fraser as Raoul, OMG, I'm in love. And Ramin was really, really good as the Phantom. And just everything was wonderful! Especially because I didn't expect it to be the staged version. I thought it would be a concert, like Les Mis did last year. So I was so happy and surprised when it wasn't.

No need to say it, but I'm am going to have to buy the Blue-ray as soon as it comes out in November, no doubt about that!

(Check out my Tumblr for more fangirling there!)

- I had my first test of this school year, and I think... I think I did well. Time will tell, but I think I did well. I really, really need good grades this year. It's my last, before I can finally get that damn diploma and go on to study things so I can actually become something and become a functional adult. This is so important, but it's so hard!

- This week is Autumn break and I've promised myself that I'm going to be good and study for most of it. So I shall. I shall.

That's what I've heard! That it's just a really fun and cool show that is what it is and doesn't pretend other wise :) Sometimes you just need some fluff, and that's okay :D

I actually did visit London with Dad this week, and we watched the live broadcast of Phantom too, at a cinema in Covent Garden. By the time I heard about the concert, tickets to RAH were going for 200 GBP apiece, which was too outrageous to even contemplate.

Like you, I expected a fairly straightforward concert, and I was blown away:) I kept grinning whenever Hadley got onstage throughout the evening, and Ramin just absolutely nailed "Music of the Night"! Definitely buying it when they release it:)

Legally Blonde is very fun, and it is in my opinion much better than the movie. Have you tried watching the MTV broadcast on youtube? The voice-overs at the end of each segment are rather annoying, but the performance itself is very enjoyable:)

Oh wow, aren't you lucky! Hadley is my new favourite, and I'm not afraid of saying that I'm in total fangirl mode at the moment!

Ooh! No, I honestly haven't looked for anything Legally Blonde related... do you have a link for me, or is it easy to find on youtube?

I've been familiar with Hadley's name for a few years, courtesy of my involvement in the musical trade business, but I never paid him much attention beyond being vaguely aware that I'd placed him on my mental list of "performers I like and would like to hear more from". I liked his performance as Grantaire well enough (really must rewatch the concert!), and I really enjoyed his performance as Javert when I saw him in July. I was disappointed to find him absent from Les Mis Monday evening (he was out for the previous Wednesday matinee too, so I didn't get to see him live this time), but I didn't really expect him to be present after the weekend he'd had:)

How did you like him as Raoul? "Rather curious casting" was my first thought when I realised he was going to be in the concert, given his vocal range - I thought he was a little bit too forceful (I'm one of those people who find the amount of times book!Raoul bursts into tears hilarious), but he did an excellent job holding up to Ramin and Sierra Boggess:)

It isn't very hard to find at all, but here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFDE2FF2423BB2068
Show starts 1-2 minutes into Part 1. I watched the whole thing before I decided on whether or not buy tickets for the first time, and found it well worth my time and money.

Me, being very new to the whole musical fandom, first heard of him last year after watching the concert and going, GRANTAIRE WAS KIND OF HOT!! WHO IS THIS LOVELY MAN?? And I really want to see him as Javert, I've heard mixed reviews, so I want to see for myself.

I'm also a total newbie on Phantom. I've seen the movie (which I've gathered isn't very beloved.) and I've seen the anniversary. I've also listened to the original recording non-stop the last week. (Only thing Spotify is good for. Musicals!) So my opinion is really good for nothing. But here it is anyway: I thought Hadley's voice was really good. Strong like you said, and I really liked his portrayal. (some thought he was an unfeeling jerk. I thought he was strong and a worthy opponent to the Phantom. I don't like wussy boys, so I liked it.)

When I heard he was cast I was kind of surprised, what with him never playing the role before.

I'm really, really keen on seeing PotO before JOJ leaves. I want to see JOJ and Killian and Katie Hall. But I don't really know what kind of deadline I'm working with to reach this goal ;)

Personally, I'm not very attracted to Hadley, but he has the most amazing eyes! According to the notes I made in July (which I really should type up, I know), his delivery as Javert is very similar to what his Raoul was like, very forceful and with very clear intonation. I found him overly violent in "The Confrontation", but his Suicide was amazing. The audience actually applauded, which is rare.

Being new to it doesn't preclude you from having opinions! I'll admit that I at some points, such as in the scene leading up to "All I Ask of You", thought him rather too insensitive, and later maybe a touch too bloodthirsty, but all in all I enjoyed his portrayal very much. Then again, I'm not strictly a fan of the show, I don't count it among my favourites - don't get me wrong, I truly enjoy it and have loved seeing it live some three-four times, but my love for the show is nowhere near Phan-porportions.

I'm afraid very few movie adaptions of musicals are beloved by the fans. I apparently have no taste, since I tend to rather enjoy them - particularly Rent, despite the too old cast. I'm NOT a fan of Emmy Rossum (though she sings the role beautifully) and casting Gerard Butler was just wrong, but in my opinion the film definitely has its moments. Now, the upcoming Les Mis movie, on the other hand...I can't even watch the show without nit-picking every last detail, so I'm very apprehensive on that count.

JOJ, Killian and Katie being in Phantom together amuses me to no end. You can't look far in the West End/on Broadway without finding plenty of Les Mis alumni, but that's rather extreme:)

Les Mis' cast change is generally late June, but I don't know about Phantom. I'm pretty sure Killian at least is going to stay a while, though! I saw somebody describing Peter Jöback (who, by the way, I didn't recognise. I kept thinking "WHO is that fourth guy with Colm, JOJ and Warlow?!) as the "new" Phantom on some board earlier today, so maybe there's something to that?

EDIT: Found this piece of news:
When JOJ's run finishes in March 2012, Swedish Peter Jöback will be taking over the role for half a year.

...I don't know how I feel about that.

Well, I do find Hadley attractive, he's right up my alley ;) (I don't mind not having to share.) And I agree with you that he was maybe a bit to insensitive at times, but I chalk that up to the fact that Raoul *really* didn't believe that the Phantom existed at that time, so he thought Christine to be a little crazy. But yeah, maybe he could have dialled back the unfeeling-ness a bit.

I like the PotO movie too. It's not great, but not too bad either. Enjoyable to watch you know. (I'm so anxious about the Les Mis film. I hope it won't be too awful.)

I was so surprised when I realised that was Peter Jöback, and that he's going to be the Phantom! Jeesus, is that a miscast or what? I NEED to go see this show before JOJ leaves!!!

Hi, fellow Scandinavian here. Hope you don't mind my intrusion. :) Would you like to discuss fandom in Scandinavian or do you have Scandinavian fanworks to share? Perhaps you'd consider joining us over at [livejournal.com profile] scandafandom?

We are many Scandinavians here on LJ, but we almost all post and comment in English. I'm contacting you to try to gather us in a strong and lively Scandinavian speaking milieu, where we can get beta readers for fanfics in our mother tongue, squee over Scandinavian events, fanworks and cons (not just stare in envy at our American friends' posts from AWA...) and so on. You can talk about all kinds of fandom related topics at [livejournal.com profile] scandafandom, as long as you post in a Scandinavian language. See you there? (Lurking is also perfectly okay!)

(How I found you: I searched for Scandinavian journals with recent updates. I then had a look at your profile and journal, saw that you were active in fandom and thought that you would possibly be open for an invitation. I hope I wasn't totally amiss. :)
