I've been home a while now, and been so lazy, I haven't had the energy to tell you all about London. But thanks to
dieloreley who is demanding to know, I'm doing it now=)
London was awesome. Just wow. I loved it so much. Everything was so cheap! That was what struck me the most. We bought so much yet it felt like we didn't use anything, because if you were to compare it to what we would have to pay for it in Norway it was nothing. 1 £ = 10 kr! And to my immense delight the books, I found this cute little store were they sold classics for nothing at all! I bought 3 books for 5 £, that's 50 kr. You know what I can get for 50 kr? I can take the buss to Oslo and buy an ice cream! When I buy books here I have to pay 99 kr. for one. So safe to say I bought many books. I had 7 books with me back in my suitcase.
I bought other things too. We found this store, Premark I think it was called. And wow, it was cheap. And a lot of people there. Seriously, I had trouble breathing in the most crowded places. But I got 5 t-shirts and some other stuff to under 200 kr! At home I would only get one t-shirt for that!
We did other thing than shopping too though.
We arrived late Thursday night and took the Gatwick express to Victoria Station. From there we took the Tube to our hotel. We did figure out how to do it. If we used the entire train ride to interpret the tube map, we do not speak of it. Who said women can't read maps? (I'm actually not so bad at it. And geography which is my most hated subject! In our year book my quote was: "Zzzz! I *hate* geography!" (This was at the time when I was starting to be sick and I fell asleep on my desk.)) As fun as taking the Tube was, I have to say that it was very tiring to lift my suitcase up and down all those stairs.
Friday, we took the Tube to the Tower of London. (It was the only tourist-y thing we did. Next time we'll do more.) Unfortunately I get sore feet very fast. My poor feet is not used to be used so much! So we only saw the Crown Jewels. And man, those are pretty. And we went into the White Tower and saw all the weapons and armory. Henry VII's armor? All I have to say, "Yeah, right." After that I could not walk anymore and we took the Tube to Oxford Street were we ate lunch at a pub before we went shopping. I walked a lot that day. It has been ages since I walked that much.
Saturday, we took a taxi to Oxford Street. (I had had enough of the Tube.) The taxi ride was also very cheap...! We shopped a little, but my feet was sore from last day's walking. I switched shoes though, smart move. And besides, we were going to the matinè of Les Misèrable.
Les Misèrables: W-O-W! That is the best musical I've ever seen. It was so freakin awesome. I got chills. I laughed, cried and clapped to my hands was sore. And the music. The first thing I did when I came home was to download the music and I listen to it on replay all day. The voices. Just wow. If you ever get the chance to go see it you should. You will not be disappointed. I totally have to read the book now!
Sunday was really just a travel day. We checked out and took a taxi to Victoria Station. Ate brunch there and then took the train to Gatwick airport.
London was fabulous. I did not want to leave. I loved being able to talk english, and just listen to the people around me. I have a dream that when I get healthy I'll go study in London.
I'll post the few digital pictures when my mum upload them from her cellphone.

on 2008-06-06 10:32 pm (UTC)The shop that you went to is called Primark. My sis went bonkers shopping there when she got here as well. I don't like it coz I feel claustrophobic after a bit in that shop.

on 2008-06-07 02:24 am (UTC)I wasn't sick in Year 12 and still fell asleep at my desk in English! And I liked English too. dL=one tired chicka all year. That was fun. So no shame in sleeping when you're supposed to be awake! ...ok, maybe a little bit. But it doesn't count if it's geography! :P
I'm glad you had fun and bought heaps of things! And you must must must read Les Mis! I read a shortened version once (I think) but I should go back and read the thing properly! I hear it's really good so YAY for you going to see it!
