But there's something in the way he watches her, his face closed but his eyes sharp, the way his gaze lingers over her hands when she gestures, the spark of amusement that rests in all but their most fierce arguments, and Brennan does not understand this. She does not understand people, and Booth never hesitates to remind her of this, but she's beginning to think it's more upsetting that she doesn't understand him, and she doesn't know why that should be true, but it is.
