When he was a child, he grew tomatoes in his backyard, following his great-grandfather's instructions in watering and caring for them. They grew tall and true, and produced a banner crop of fruit, and ever since, Sulu has loved things that grow in the earth. Now, he has a greenhouse on a ship, and it's not quite earth, and not everything he grows bears recognisable fruit, but he loves them all just the same.
