Before Jill can toss out a retort, the golden-haired boy is interrupted by a loud cough and another boy edges his way between them, arms crossed and tone resigned: “Never mind him, he’s decided to hurl out that line, in the name of scholarly observation—or something like that—just to see how pretty girls will take it—it’s his way of passing the time, since we’ve been waiting here awhile…. Oh, I’m Edmund, that’s Peter, hello…bother, please tell me you’re not Jill!”
(“What?” Eustace demands when his three companions stay completely silent as they all make their way out of the train station.)
