Criminal Minds, Reid(/Hotch) & Jack, mothers

Post '100' angst would be lovely.

He isn't exactly familiar with the nurturing that most mothers provide; everything he knows about functional families has been learned by watching other people, and more recently by being part of the BAU. Still, when Jack's quiet sobs wake him, the pain and loss in those cries pull him from Aaron's bed [carefully, so he doesn't ruin Aaron's rare moment of undisturbed sleep] and down the hall to Jack's room; he gathers Aaron's son in his arms.

"I'm so sorry," he breathes into Jack's ear, and recites for him the only maternal comfort he remembers: softly spoken lines of poetry, fading into the night.
