Welcome to the Three Sentence Fic-A-Thon:

Photobucket

This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like. Only one prompt per comment please.

When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Lastly, please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

Have fun!

If you have any questions ask them to the first comment.

Edit December 10th: Thanks to the brilliant [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine we now have a delicious account. So head on over there to find some unfilled prompts: three_sentence_ficathon's delicious bookmarks.

A small note from [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine who's organizing the delicious archive: "So I'm not familiar with all the fandoms here; sometimes when people post a ficlet they abbreviate a fandom and sometimes they don't (like BSG versus Battlestar Galactica, but I know that one) so I might have it listed twice in the delicious tags. If someone notices something messed up they can comment below." -- So do that, and when requesting something new, please use the fandom's whole name.

Avatar: the Last Airbender, Toph, seeing her parents again

[identity profile] fiendlikethee.livejournal.com 2010-01-20 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
It takes a while for her to find the nerve to travel back to the Earth Kingdom--it is one thing, after all, to run away from home and have adventures; quite another to return after those adventures are over and face the life you've left behind.

Her parents meet her at the dock, and they are silent for so long that Toph is glad she can't see the expressions of, she imagines, bewildered disappointment on their faces. Then her mother says, "Oh, Toph, we were so worried--thank goodness you're back safe--we've heard so much about what you and the Avatar have done--dear, we're so proud of you," and she discovers that homecoming isn't so terrible after all.

"What do you think it's like, the country beyond the sea?" Peter says, eyeing the edge of the horizon with a frankly disturbing glint in his eye.

Susan raises an eyebrow. "Peter, you do know that you get seasick just looking at a boat, don't you?"

Like a woodland sprite, Lucy can find her home anywhere, even when everyone else would rather just leave. Edmund laughs at her childlike fancies, but she's the one he sticks with when they go camping. She pats the mossy rock next to her and says, "Edmund, tonight the stars will be our blanket and the moon will be our hearth."

They both like good clothes, impeccably pressed, material as good as they can get and in beautiful colors, nylons paper-thin and new, shoes shined and their lipstick applied just so. They both carry themselves with a style and grace that they've cultivated over long years, and their sense of fashion is practically perfect.

But Susan carries a knife on her at all times, even here in England, and Morgana carries her weapons with her in golden eyes and whispered words, and neither of them takes chances with the people around them or the situations they place themselves in.

She's seen the earth swallowed up by the sun, but that's not what this is, here on this world where it's so familiar but everything's so wrong. She's seen apocalypses too, but it's never felt like one because he was there to hold her and keep her safe. Now that he's gone she's finally frightened of everything that's happening and shouldn't be, but there's so much of him left in her that she can't possibly drown in her own fear.

Percy blushed hotly, turning nearly as red as his hair; he had expected the incredulity, of course, but the wicked amusement dancing in Oliver's eyes just made him bristle in indignation.

"Not a crush," Percy insisted, "Charlie was older, seemed to know everything and he was a Quidditch player!"

"It doesn't matter," Oliver said slyly, flicking Percy on his self-righteous nose. "A man crush is still a crush, Perce."

"Look, I'm not saying anything, I just think you should at least talk to her," said Kirk as he took a sip of his coffee, indicating the far corner of the mess with a tilt of his head.

"Oh, aye, I'm sure," grumbled Scotty, "and if this is anywhere near as good as the time you set me up with that lass from Maranga IV... where's this one from, by the way, what's her name?"

"Frye, sir, Ensign Kaylee, pleased to meet you," said the girl in red, beaming as she approached their table - "just transferred to Enterprise engineering from the Starfleet base on Persephone - and I want to say, sir, I've never been on a ship this shiny, she sure is pretty... I did have a question about the fabrication compound for the coils in the impulse drives, though..." and at that point Kirk stood up and walked away, chuckling, leaving the bewildered but pleased-looking Scotty behind.

[identity profile] lizzie-marie-23.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
He's had to leave people behind too - it feels like betrayal and unworthiness and shame - so he knows how much it's hurting this brilliant young man. He repeats over and over that it wasn't your fault, Jim, there was nothing you could do, they understand why you had to do it, it wasn't your fault, it wasn't, I forgive you, even though he knows from experience that no matter how many times he says it, it won't make a bit of difference to the captain who so badly needs to hear the words.

This is the cruelest thing he can do, but it's also the only think that can work, so he adopts a commanding tone to snap the kid out of it, "Captain Kirk, as your Admiral I am ordering you to proceed to Calix VI immediately - is that understood?"

The sword's hilt is warm to the touch, as warm as fire, and Peta feels as if her hand should be burning as she touches it, nearly expects the smell of smoke as she closes her fingers around it, but there's nothing. She draws the sword (it whispers its name into her mind, Rhindon, and she whispers back, I've been waiting, though she doens't know why) and lets the sunlight sparkle off the blade in the same way it does the snow around her.

"Battles are ugly affairs, are they?" she says, and smiles the way she's never smiled before, sharp and fierce and hungry.

Lucy, because Lucy does that sort of thing, hacks her hair off until it's shorter than Edmund and she looks like a boy, as if their family has two brothers instead of one, and Susan lets her long black hair be her one extravagance and does elaborate things with it, the sort of things Peta has no patience for. More than once, she tries Lucy's route, but her hair grows back faster than her sister's ever does, so Peta takes to braiding it, putting it up, whatever she can do to keep it out of her way. When it reaches her waist, despite her best attempts, she gives up, and pins the long golden braid in a crown around her head, settling her own crown around it.

"Your majesty," says the armorer, his voice a low, pleased purr, "perhaps it should be a lioness rampant on your shield, rather than a lion?"

Peta strokes her fingers across the cool metal of her shield, cool and cold as winter's kiss, and says, "No. I think I'll allow Aslan this one foible for now."

we are pleased as punch, we are. *smirk* I had to pull my Peta icons out of retirement!

Star Trek, Spock/Kirk/McCoy, blood brothers

[identity profile] grim-lupine.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Their wrists and hands are bleeding from the welts where they've dragged at their ropes, trying to get themselves untied; Spock manages to free himself first, of course, and when Jim nods his head toward McCoy, Spock unties him next; the two of them each take one of Jim's hands and free him, and when they're loose, Jim looks down at his hands where all their blood has mixed and stained his skin scarlet.

"Looks like we're blood brothers now," Jim says cheerfully, and grins up at McCoy who grumbles, "This isn't summer camp, kid, and don't get me started on how unhygienic that practice is."

Jim makes a comical sadface at McCoy, and Spock looks between the two of them and thinks he might never fully understand them; but Jim turns to grin at him as well, and McCoy's hands are gentle when he turns Spock's wrists over to check them, so perhaps his lack of understanding is not such a terrible thing.

(Lol. This is probably different from what you wanted. :D Also, I started with no narrator, then Spock decided he wanted it to be from his point of view, so if it sounds a little confused, that's probably why. XD)

Star Trek, Kirk, "Pain is weakness leaving the body."

[identity profile] lizzie-marie-23.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Leonard worries about his friend quite often, the way he rushes into danger with no regard to his own safety. One of these days he won't be able to save him, but Jim never listens, saying that "Pain is how I know I'm still alive and you should really stop nagging, Bones, it'll add years to your life." The poor kid doesn't know that the worst pain of all is when you watch someone you love walk away and wonder if you'll ever see him again.

(This is more focused on McCoy than on Kirk. Sorry about that.)

Star Trek XI, Author's choice, blackout

[personal profile] samueljames 2010-01-02 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Only Scotty could new improve things enough to cause a ship wide blackout leaving them with just impulse engines, life support and rather weirdly one working replicator, Starfleet did not design ships that could be crippled so easily and Jim worried that they might one day encounter an enemy who could recreate the same situation.

Jim had been in a turbolift with Bones at the time and he was grateful his partner hadn't been alone because it had taken some effort from Jim to stop Bones having a panic attack, careful gentle touches and whispered reassurances had soothed him for the ten minutes they'd been trapped.

Scotty had been most apologetic to everyone and was now documenting exactly how he'd managed it for the report requested by the Captain when he was approached by Chekov, "it was so dark that I was able to talk to Hikaru without blushing and he returned my feelings, thank you."

[identity profile] weisquared.livejournal.com 2010-02-17 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
The Island is one of those chinks and chasms that spans the gap between space and time, this world and that one.

So if Jacob spends days and days walking through the forest with a talking lion, well, lions are slightly less improbable than polar bears, and he’s been lonely since Esau left and it’s nice to have someone who understands the value of cryptic words.

They are gods of their own little worlds, nudging their charges onto the path they ought to take, walking that fine line between annihilation of free will and disregard for the fate of souls, because humankind is not just an experiment, not just a trial of different philosophies since the life of each individual matters.
